Activities Specialist (Assisted Living Focus)

$18.21 to $21.91 (Salary based on years of experience)

1st Shift/ Flexible days/hours (on-site) Weekends only with coverage during the week as needed

Essential Duties

  • Responsible for creating an engaged community of residents in Assisted Living through creating, advertising, and facilitating a calendar of well-balanced events, trips, group activities, and one on one engagement opportunities that nourish the body, mind, and spirit.

  • Facilitate art, craft, cooking, and music-related programming.

  • Works with Assisted Living Resident Council and attends committee meetings as assigned.

  • Covering and/or assisting team members' activities in Skilled Care, Memory Support, and Community Events.

  • Assist residents with technology such as Zoom calls with family members.

  • Maintain hygienic handling of food during cooking groups, snack carts, and events.

  • Responsible for documentation according to Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) regulations for licensed nursing homes.

  • Keep current with a minimum of ten (10) hours of continuing education per year (including required dementia education) as per IDPH requirement and provided by Presbyterian Homes.

  • Is aware of Presbyterian Homes Corporate Compliance policies, including those having to do with confidentiality and security of information, and concern for the well-being of residents and patients. Demonstrates behaviors and completes work in a manner consistent with these policies.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Able to push residents in wheelchairs, able to push loaded carts, able to lift objects over 20 lbs., and able to be on your feet most of the day.

  • Associate Degree or CNA Certification preferred.

  • Some experience with working with older adults and persons with dementia is preferred.

  • Experience creating or teaching Studio Arts.

  • Experience cooking or baking.

  • Motivational abilities, flexibility, resourcefulness, patience, and creativity.

  • Energetic, positive, and highly motivated.

  • Group and individual program planning experience.

  • Good computer skills; good written and verbal communication skills.
